Programmes Director appointed Focal Point for animal welfare in Kenya

10 April 2014

It’s an exciting time for WSPA Africa this month.

The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) has appointed Nick de Souza, our World Animal Protection Africa Programmes Director, as the ‘Focal Point’ for animal welfare in Kenya.

The OIE is the intergovernmental organisation responsible for improving animal health worldwide. This means that Nick will have the opportunity to advise Kenya's Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) about animal welfare issues relevant to Kenya and how to address them.

Nick said, "It is an honour to be selected as the Focal Point. I am excited to be working together with the CVO on animal welfare issues in Kenya."

World Animal Protection Africa has also been awarded status as a ‘Continuous Professional Service Provider’ by the Kenya Veterinary Board, the government agency in charge of all vets in Kenya.

This will give our team the opportunity to deliver educational modules on animal welfare to vets in Kenya, as part of their ongoing professional development.
