Gilbert Sape

Wildlife

My name is Gilbert Sape and I’m the global head of campaign for Wildlife. Not Medicine.

I joined World Animal Protection in April 2015. Over the years, I’ve been working with a dedicated global team to end the use of wildlife in traditional medicine.

Bears and tigers are close to my heart. I’ve witnessed firsthand how bears suffer in captivity in Vietnam – some have been confined in the same tiny cages for the last 15 years.

In Thailand, I’ve seen hundreds of tigers, drugged and chained, used in entertainment venues. Chances are, they will spend the rest of their lives there, a far cry from their natural lives in the wild.

Despite the availability of plant-based or synthetic alternatives, there’s still a demand for wildlife in traditional medicine.

Together with our supporters, I believe we have the power to change the narrative of these majestic animals.
