Gilbert Sape, former global head of campaign for 'Wildlife. Not Medicine'.
Gilbert joined World Animal Protection in April 2015. Over the years, he worked with a dedicated global team to end the use of wildlife in traditional medicine.
Bears and tigers are close to his heart. Gilbert witnessed firsthand how bears suffer in captivity in Vietnam – some confined in the same tiny cages for decades. In Thailand, Gilbert saw hundreds of tigers, drugged and chained, used in entertainment venues, destined to spend the rest of their lives there - a far cry from their natural lives in the wild.
Despite the availability of plant-based or synthetic alternatives, there’s still a demand for wildlife in traditional medicine. Together with our supporters, we have the power to change the narrative of these majestic animals.
