When Lotus became too sick to keep carrying tourists, the people who profited from her work left her for dead on a roadside. Barely an adult, her body was already broken by a lifetime of giving rides over rough terrain, her feet riddled with untreated infections. Lotus survived, and today she lives at an elephant sanctuary alongside other rescued elephants, free to explore with her new friends.
