GetYourGuide's Summer Summit necessitates a disruption.
An annual event, Summit Week sees all 800+ GetYourGuide colleagues from 17 global offices descend on Berlin to 'work hard, play hard, and celebrate our culture, values, and wins,'
World Animal Protection, PETA, and Welttierschutzgesellschaft (WTG) are gathered outside GetYourGuide's Berlin Headquarters today to remind the company is it profiting from the exploitation of wild animals.
Our message is clear: it's time for GetYourGuide to stop marketing animal cruelty under their slogan: make memories. From elephant bathing to tiger selfies, these activities inflict untold harm on wildlife, all for the sake of human entertainment.
This isn't just about making noise it's about holding travel industry leaders accountable for their actions: Hundreds of thousands of wild animals are currently forced into captivity because of the global tourism industry.
GetYourGuide has declined meetings with our animal welfare representatives, blocked World Animal Protection's emails, and censored diplomatic comments on social media.
Today we want every employee walking into that summit to understand the gravity of their company's choices.
Does this behaviour align with your company's core value, Joy?
Imagine yourself in your customers' shoes, GetYourGuide claims, "We are committed to curating unforgettable experiences for colleagues and customers." However, as awareness grows around ethical travel, participating in captive animal entertainment is increasingly likely to evoke feelings of guilt and shame, rather than joy.
GetYourGuide has the power to transform their industry, and it is time to hold them accountable for the experiences they offer to holidaymakers. We're urging GYG to have a comprehensive, publicly available policy that completely prohibits wildlife entertainment for all wild animal species.
Making memories shouldn't mean making misery for animals.
